THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME
When coming up with a name for our backyard studio kits, we wanted something uniquely Australian that also communicated what our product is all about.
​
Humpy has its origins from the Aboriginal Australian word meaning basic small house or shelter. We felt it was the perfect way to describe our modern compact backyard studios.
​
The second half of our name - BNB - stands for Bed and Breakfast, which is a universal term thanks to sites like Airbnb. Our backyard humpies allow Aussie homeowners to start earning extra rental income by building an investment property in their own backyard!

So Humpy plus BNB combines these ideas - a small, affordable home or studio at the rear of an existing property that can be rented out as a self-contained Airbnb style rental.

We may have put a fresh spin on an old Aboriginal term, but the concept of a humpy - a basic yet homely shelter - goes back centuries in Australia.
